OUR BLENDS

Our different rosin blends offer you a precise way to enhance the sound of your instrument. By choosing our Supple or Crisp recipes, or even a Bespoke blend, you can optimise the brightness, clarity, warmth and richness of your sound, and vary the strength of initial attack on the string.

We can create recipes to suit varying playing contexts or repertoire, such as when playing as a concerto soloist, in chamber music or in an orchestra.

Your bespoke rosin will generally last 2-5 years with intensive use.

A warm and softer sound, consistent traction that feels velvety and rich; this recipe maintains a reliably sharp attack on the string.

The supple blend generates a more powerful and focused sound from a softer and lighter bow with less ‘bite’. Supple also enhances the sounds of a deep / warm sounding instrument by making it sound more resonant. Supple can also ‘soften’ an instrument which is too loud, bright or one-dimensional in sound.

What Our Customers Think

A decisive attack, firm traction and crisp sautille; this recipe creates an undeniably forthright sound through a glassier texture.

The crisp blend works well with an instrument with lots of resonance but is a little ‘woolly’ in sound, offering it greater clarity and articulation. Crisp also assists bows or techniques that struggle to achieve a clear and articulate spiccato or sautille. Crisp can also assist small student or cheap instruments, by enhancing their sound to be brighter and sometimes louder; and beginning students find it easier to articulate with crisp.

What Our Customers Think

Personally customised blends:

Have a personally customised rosin recipe made for you to suit your exacting needs. We can further customise your recipe by changing the strength of initial attack, the heaviness of the texture and the level of brightness and warmth. We can also make recipes specific to unusual instrument such as electric and folk instruments.

75% crisp - "This bespoke recipe is the perfect blend for the soloist. It focuses on power, projection and clarity, with a slightly thicker texture that will highlight warm resonances."

75% supple - "If you love the warmth and depth of the supple blend, this recipe gives you added clarity and bite to the thicker texture

5050 - "A perfect mix of both supple and crisp recipes, this rosin recipe will have a balanced texture and sound palette"

Bespoke Rosins

Over the years, I've managed to acquire all the violin Bespoke rosins, including Supple & Crisp. So having recently purchased a nice bow, I was able to dial in the particular Leatherwood rosin that was best for me. But, there's another avenue Leatherwood might explore. I find that, a little extra "dust" on the bow changes the tone of my violin in a way that I rather like. So, I give my 50%/50% Bespoke rosin a swipe or two with 220 sandpaper before rosining my bow. It gives my violin a little more of a musty, maybe sweeter, sound. Especially the E string.

100% happy

Not only does this product look sensational, it is easy to use, beautifully presented in the leather casing and protected in its wooden sheath so no shattering, and gives a good result. I have purchased this rosin as a gift for others in the past, and this is the first time I have treated myself. I won't use anything else from now on!
