Specially formulated for gut strings, the gentle but clean attack and smoother traction allows the string to resonate freely with maximum clarity. Baroque rosin makes a bright, clear sound with a feeling that the bow is quicker on the string and makes it easier to play fast with more clarity. The smoother traction allows the string to be played with more intensity without distortion and also reduce the ‘squeak’ often encountered with using modern rosins on gut.

Playing gut strings can bring a beauty of sound and allow nuance of articulation which is magical. The choice of rosin is crucial for enhancing these qualities. I am extremely happy with the baroque Leatherwood Rosin which is the best rosin I have had the pleasure of using for my historical violones.

What a great discovery! This rosin is perfect; both aesthetically and technically. It is as beautiful as it is practical, very nicely presented, its rectangular shape on the wooden base allows for optimal use. Being neither too sticky or too dry, it allows the hair to adhere to the strings in a fluid and uniform way, as well on gut or modern strings. It is a very good product that I recommend to all my Baroque Cellists.

I love the feeling I get from the contact between the hair of my bow and the gut of my string, when using leatherwood rosin. The response is both silky and strong, I feel powerful and precise, and I can really sense the material of the gut right through the bow, allowing for superb control of microdynamics and tone color. In my experience, the rosin doesn’t dry up like other brands may, and remains sticky without it getting too much.
