Specially formulated for gut strings, the gentle but clean attack and smoother traction allows the string to resonate freely with maximum clarity. Baroque rosin makes a bright, clear sound with a feeling that the bow is quicker on the string and makes it easier to play fast with more clarity. The smoother traction allows the string to be played with more intensity without distortion and also reduce the ‘squeak’ often encountered with using modern rosins on gut.
Leatherwood Rosin's baroque instrument blends are:
Baroque Violin / treble viol
Baroque Viola / tenor viol / viola d'amore
Baroque cello / bass viol
Your baroque recipe will generally last 2-5 years with intensive use.

This rosin is beautiful to use and has a perfect level of grip for my viol. It also seems to require very little to be quite effective.
So lovely to look at and to touch! Rosin works well. The shape is convenient both for carrying and because the bow hair slides easily within the wooden frame. The leather cover is beautiful but the leather lace is ineffectual allowing the rosin-in-frame to slip out easily. I’m about to redesign the cover to create a pocket with a button to wind the lace around...
